Aloe is a large genus of more than 600 species, commonly known as “aalwyn” (Afrikaans). Species of the genus are found in Africa, Arabia and Madagascar, with a great concentration of species in Southern Africa and Madagascar. Aloe is well known for the medicinal and cosmetic properties known in Aloe vera and Aloe ferox. These species are cultivated and harvested widely for these purposes.
